Altough much has been made of the recent outbreaks of SARS in Vancouver and the suspicion
that Mad Cow Disease has reached British Columbia, we believe that wearing the appropriate
paper mask, and asking your waitress if the beef you are eating is affected with Mad Cow,
will be adequate protection from these unlikely scourges. There are many fine dining
establishments in Vancouver, but we would suggest, to be on the safe side, frequenting the
very small ones. Silly and persistant rumours suggest that SARS and BSE (Mad Cow) is spread
more quickly in large capacity fast food restaurants. Fast food outlets process vast amounts
of beef from areas we cannot verify and, because of the heavy volume of human movement in
and out of these places, SARS is also a concern.
If any doubt remains in the safety
of Vancouver dining, we remind visitors that Vancouver has a world class SARS clinic
and although efforts to find the origin of Canada's outbreak of Mad Cow have thus far proved
fruitless, the slaughter of several thousand soulless beasts proves our scientists are on top
of this matter.
