SOUND RESISTANCE!

Co-Op Radio's Sound Resistance! collective will be doing a special as part of the community station's Spring Marathon fundraiser. Tune in from noon to 1 PM for a lunch time cooking special. Jess and Blain will be cooking up cabbage rolls, step by step, supplementing the sounds of frying pans with songs of resistance and politcal updates. While the cabbage is cooking, stay tuned as Meshell and the rest of the Sound Resistance! collective play more inspiring tunes, with features on other Mayworks events. Celebrate May Day, support independent radical radio, and dine in class (struggle) with Sound Resistance! ingredients to cook at home: 1-2 large heads green cabbage, 2 cups rice, 1 1/2 cup lentils, onions, carrots, celery (other veggies) 1 small can tomato paste2 large cans of tomatoes (1 stewed/ 1 whole or sliced etc.) garlic and ginger spices (basil, rosemary, salt, pepper, etc...) vegetable bouillon cude (optional).

Video Presentation with Sid Chow Tan

Electric viewing is the literal translation from Toisan Chinese for television. A thirty minute video presentation will highlight short segments (2 - 3 minutes) produced for community television over the past fifteen years. Following will be a twenty minute discussion of the current state of citzen participation, public access and local expression in community television in the lower mainland. The segment subjects include: Asahi Baseball, Tiananmen Square, Japanese Canadian war veterans, Chinese head tax/exclusion redress, Powell Street Festival, Normie Kwong, Free Tibet, and others. As well, an extensive video archive can be viewed. Video duplication, refreshments and snacks available by donation.
