On May 14, 1874, the notorious bandit/outlaw Vasquez, for whom the Vasquez Rocks are named, was captured on the spot that is now the Hollywood Bowl, at the George Allen
Ranch, with an $8,000 reward for his capture. (Source: www.scvhistory.com)
At Highland and Hollywood in Los Angeles stands a magnificent shopping center. I took photos of it in June 2009, as it was so unusual. (Photo: K. Anderberg, June 26, 2009)
Then, I was reading this booklet and lo and behold! There it was! The caption for this photo in the book I found it in says, "Griffith "dropped" a million
on "Intolerance." His huge Babylonian sets, 300 feet high on Sunset, stood for four years." The book says this movie was filmed in 1916 on Sunset Blvd. It is clear from these
photos that what I saw
in the photo I took is somehow related to this set, if not actual pieces of this set reconstructed a few blocks from where it originally sat. I am looking forward to learning more about
this...(Photo: From a small paperback booklet on Los Angeles history,
